Component : Insert HTML link

Use Insert HTML link to edit your HTML texts and reuse objects stored in your SuperMemo collection or link to other elements in the collection. Do not use these options to simply build HTML pages. Use your favorite HTML editor instead. You can import your HTML pages with pictures, sounds and scripts with Import file on HTML component pop-up menu (e.g. after saving them with Internet Explorer as Web Page complete).

Insert HTML link appears on the HTML component pop-up menu. To open an HTML component pop-up menu right-click over the HTML component. You can switch the current component with Ctrl+T.

Insert HTML link submenu can be used to insert a variety of hyperlinks into the HTML source code. Those hyperlinks include those that are not normally interpreted by web browsers. These are SuperMemo specific and make it possible to link to other elements and registry members such as text, HTML files and images.

In order to insert a hyperlink, the HTML component must be in the editing mode, i.e. its HTML source code must be available for editing.

The Insert HTML link submenu on the component pop-up menu includes the following options:

  • Element - insert a hyperlink to another element in the collection. Before choosing Insert HTML link : Element, select a text that is supposed to be hyperlinked. When you execute this option, SuperMemo will open the contents window and ask you to choose an element to link to. Once you have selected the element to link to, click the button Accept at the bottom of the contents window. When you switch back to the presentation mode (e.g. with Esc), your HTML component will display a hyperlink. If you click this hyperlink, SuperMemo will display the linked element in the element window. To come back to the previous element, click < on the navigation toolbar (or press Alt+B)
  • Text registry - insert a hyperlink to another text in the text registry. Before choosing Insert HTML link : Text registry, select a text that is supposed to be hyperlinked. When you execute this option, SuperMemo will open the text registry and ask you to choose a text to link to. Once you have selected the text, click the button Link at the bottom of the text registry window. When you switch back to the presentation mode (e.g. with Esc), your HTML component will display a hyperlink. If you click this hyperlink, SuperMemo will load the linked text into the HTML component (note that clicking a hyperlink to an element changes the displayed element, while text hyperlink only changes the text in the HTML component). To come back to the previously displayed text, choose Back on the HTML component pop-up menu. Note that HTML menu in the presentation mode is a typical menu you will find in Internet browsers. As you have not changed the element when clicking the hyperlink, Back should be used to reload previous HTML code (in case of linking to elements, you would use < on the navigation toolbar instead)
  • HTML file - insert a hyperlink to a stand-alone HTML file. Before choosing Insert HTML link : HTML file, select a text that is supposed to be hyperlinked. When you execute this option, SuperMemo will open a file dialog and ask you to choose an HTML file available on your hard disk or on a network drive. Once you have located the file, click the button Open. When you switch back to the presentation mode (e.g. with Esc), your HTML component will display a hyperlink. If you click this hyperlink, SuperMemo will load the linked file into the HTML component (note that clicking a hyperlink to an element changes the displayed element, while file hyperlink only changes the file displayed by the HTML component). To come back to the previously displayed text, choose Back on the HTML component pop-up menu
  • Web address - insert a hyperlink to a file available from the world wide web. Before choosing Insert HTML link : Web address, select a text that is supposed to be hyperlinked. When you execute this option, SuperMemo will open a dialog and ask you to type in the Internet address (URL). When you switch back to the presentation mode (e.g. with Esc), your HTML component will display a hyperlink. If you click this hyperlink, SuperMemo will load the linked file from the Internet (only if you have an on-line connection to the Internet or if the requested file has been cached by your web browser). To come back to the previously displayed text, choose Back on the HTML component pop-up menu
  • Registry image - insert an image from the image registry. When you execute this option, SuperMemo will open the image registry and ask you to choose an image to link to (formats supported: BMP, GIF, and JPG). Once you have selected the image, click the button Link at the bottom of the image registry window. When you switch back to the presentation mode (e.g. with Esc), your HTML component will display the image inserted in your HTML code
